You Can't Take It With You

You Can't Take It With You at Clarence Brown Theatre

Why see You Can't Take It With You?

Pulitzer Prize-Winning Comedy

One of the great American comedies, You Can't Take It With You is a warm and fuzzy slice of pure escapism. Written by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman, the story centers on two distinctly different families thrown together in Depression-era New York City. Famously adapted into a Frank Capra movie in 1938, the play has been seen on Broadway in a Tony-Award winning adaptation. Don't miss it as it comes to Knoxville's Clarence Brown Theatre!

What's It About?

Tony Kirby and Alice Sycamore, newly engaged, decide to invite Tony's parents to dine at Alice's family home. The Sycamore's can't seem to see what he sees in Alice and her mad-cap family, including her eccentric Grandfather, her mother (who writes erotic plays) and her father (who manufacturers fireworks... in their basement).

Though Tony and Alice are very much in love, the differences between their two families make Alice wonder if a marriage would ever work. Will love trump family loyalty, can both families learn a little something from each other?
